Week of Twitter.
I have had a Twitter account for about a year now. Up until two weeks ago, I had accumulated just twelve tweets." When I was assigned to complete at least twenty tweets in one week for Hixson Seminar, I had no idea how I would constantly be tweeting to reach twenty; it took me a year to tweet twelve times! I started by forcing myself to tweet three times a day, but soon found it hard just to keep up with that. I didn't find meaning in Twitter and the only reason I was tweeting was for my assignment. As the week went on I was on track to tweeting twenty times by the end of the week and was realizing why I hadn't used Twitter so much before the assignment. I believe there are different social networks for each person's personality and purpose. I think Twitter is more for outspoken people who like to share a lot of aspects of their life. I am more of a reserved person, so I don't necessarily like to say what I'm doing or thinking about three times a day. I think as I may resort back to Twitter as I get older, but it doesn't benefit me much right now. For example, as of now I don't feel the need to know everything going on in the world, but when I am in the professional world it is important to know those types of things to simply make conversation with someone. I did learn a very important rule of thumb for Twitter from this website, “don’t tweet anything that you would not say to your mother or boss.” Anyone can see this and it is not worth ruining your future over something you write online. One way I found Twitter beneficial within the week I used it was when there was something going on around campus, it would show up on my dashboard. Another reason I enjoyed the week of Twitter was because I began following a quotes page that would post quotes a few times a day. These quotes were the highlight of my day all week; just a few simple words would give me the strength to get through the day. I think I will look through my twitter account as I had before this assignment, but will not be fully dedicated to it on a daily basis. I think Twitter will be more beneficial later in life.

Good job looking at the positives of Twitter. It is important to connect with business professionals, but maybe a few years down the road.
ReplyDeleteTwitter does have some benefits to the site. I like how you found the quotes page to entertain you.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it takes a certain personality to fully enjoy the site, but I think it was a good experience for everyone to go through, if nothing more than to find that out. I'm glad you could find and focus on the positives of it though. :)
